I was born in a Manchikeri, a small village near Yellapur Taluk, North Canara District.

My dad was a supervisor in West Coast Paper Mill Dandeli. When I was in 9th standard he took volunteer retirement due to family constraint. That time we were a family of 6(me, mom, dad, 3 elder sisters) with the annual income of 7980/- (665/- per month). My requirements till 12th standard were very less and were able to manage in my dad’s budget with the help of few small scholarship leagues. But the case was not same when I thought of doing Engineering.

Even though money is better than poverty only for financial reasons, money is like oxygen that you have to have it. I believe for every talent to come out in flying colors he need 3 things.

1) Luck

2) Helping Hand

3) Ability

Why I said luck because you need luck to find Helping Hand! I am lucky I found Vidya Poshak during my 12th standard. Few of my close friends were already part of this family. Since I was good at academics I joined this family during my 1st semester of Engineering at 2007.

They paid my entire college admission fees. I got free books from Vidya Poshak Library– Hubli Branch. The very strange thing is that few of engineering books of particular authors which I didn’t find in my college library, I got them from Vidya Poshak library.

As there is a famous Arabian Proverb “If you have much, give of your wealth; if you have little, give of your heart”, Vidya Poshak is a combination of this. The first part is donors and second is volunteers who are running this organization. All members of Vidya Poshak – library madam, Sirsi Branch members, Dharwad branch members are so kind that I really felt like family atmosphere.

I joined as volunteer and I took part in conducting functions, nurture merit test supervision, paper evaluation, and check distribution function etc. Unfortunately due to time constraint I was not able to be a part of the camp that Vidya Poshak conducts.

With the help of Vidya Poshak, Pejavar Swamiji Udupi (provided me the free hostel facility),blessing of parents and God I managed to get 8.52 out of 10 in Engineering and I got placed in 2 companies. MindTree- which is the fastest growing company in India and Accenture- Number 1 consulting company in the world

I joined Accenture in July, 2011. Now I am working in Accenture as an Associate Software Engineer and also I am pursuing my part time master’s degree from Manipal University. I will be always grateful to Vidya Poshak.

My life is my message – Mahatma Gandhi My life is my message how Vidya Poshak is-Naveen!

It is good to be blessed but it is better to be blessing and now it is my turn….

My name is Indrakumar G. I am native of a small village in Sirsi taluk, Uttara Kannada district. After completing SSLC (in which I scored 88.64%), I dreamt of taking ‘science’ in PUC. But the financial condition of my home was too worse even to join college. During those days I came to know about Vidya Poshak (which we call now familiarly as VP) from Mr. S. G. Hegde, Hotel Madhuvan, Sirsi.

With his guidance I filled the application form of the Vidya Poshak for the year 2006-07. Next, my home visit was carried out Mr. Ashok Bhat one of the volunteers of Vidya Poshak family, a very kind hearted person. He turned out to be a consolidator for my family, since we had no hope of continuing my education. With his efforts, my score in SSLC, condition of my home, helping hand of Vidya Poshak with its donors and student friendly Mrs. Sudha Murthy, Infosys Bangalore, I got the student membership of Vidya Poshak.

Then I got admission for ‘science’ at M.E.S. PU College, Sirsi. With the motivation of Vidya Poshak and my efforts, I bagged 92.33% in PUC-I. One thing that should be highlighted here is that Vidya Poshak helps a student not just once in a year providing financial funds but also providing all the necessary books for a student with the aid of its own library facilities. The library facilities are so wonderful that a student gets the books irrespective of the branch/course/discipline in which he/she is studying right from PUC till the completion of degree.

With such a solid foundation in PU-I, I entered PU-II with lots of hopes. But my fate had a different game planned for me. I suffered for about 6 months from a severe health disorder and managed to score only 77.8% with a CET ranking of 10,758 in engineering. But it seemed possible for the Vidya Poshak community to help only those students securing a rank of 5,000 or below because of lack of funds from the donors. At that stage the real flavor of Vidya Poshak started acting, i.e. none other than humanity. They supported me in such a great way that I was able to join B.E. Indeed lots of thanks to Mr. R. N. Tikot. The bondage with the Vidya Poshak went on becoming strong day day with letters to volunteers, personality development classes conducted Vidya Poshak’s eminent personalities and to mention most-the caring and friendly nature of Vidya Poshak staff.

Now I have completed B.E. at KLS’s VDRIT, Haliyal under VTU (waiting for 8th sem results) with an aggregate percentage of 84.22%. No doubt that I am one of the top 20 students under VTU for the batch of 2011-12 for the electronics and communication discipline. Thanks to Vidya Poshak. I got placed in SONY at the cost of support from VP. I also received both the prestigious awards given away our college viz., “the best all-rounder of the college” and “the best outgoing student of the college”. Vidya Poshak has become an inseparable part of life for the past 6 years.

Finally I would like to thank all the volunteers, donors, staff and management of Vidya Poshak for being a backbone for thousands of students like me throughout the entire state of Karnataka.

Thanking you,

 -Indrakumar
