A Legacy That Continues to Transform Lives
Talent is not confined to cities, privileged schools, or wealthy families. It is found in every village,every classroom, and every child. Our responsibility is to discover it, nurture it, and help it flourish. This belief shaped the life and work of Late Shri Pramod Kulkarni, Co-Founder of Vidya Poshak. For over three decades, he dedicated himself to ensuring that financial hardship would never become a barrier to excellent education. Through Vidya Poshak, thousands of first-generation learners from rural and economically disadvantaged families found the opportunity to pursue higher education and build successful careers.
Yet, Shri Pramod Kulkarni often reflected on a deeper challenge. Across India’s government schools are countless children with extraordinary intelligence, curiosity and determination. Many consistently excel in their classrooms, yet very few ever reach India’s premier institutions—not because they lack ability, but because they lack access to quality guidance, exposure, mentoring and opportunities.
He believed that if these children were identified early and provided with the right ecosystem of support, they could compete with the very best students in the country and emerge as tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, doctors, researchers, civil servants and changemakers. This vision gave birth to what is now known as the PKEI – Pramod Kulkarni Education Initiative: Rural Talent Accelerator.
Today, PKEI carries forward his dream discovering exceptional talent in rural government schools, nurturing academic excellence through dedicated mentoring and high-quality learning experiences, and creating pathways for students to access the country’s finest educational opportunities.
More than a programme, PKEI is a living tribute to a visionary who believed that every child’s future should be defined their potential—not their circumstances.
