Mobile Leadership Program
Vidya Poshak has been striving hard to empower the student community. While the financial assistance caters to the post 10th class students, a new venture called Mobile Leadership Programme engages rural children in the age group of 10 to 12 years.
The project is sponsored by a Netherlands based foundation Enabling Leadership Foundation. This is a pilot project which will run for one year and based on the learning scaling might be explored. Through this project, we facilitate rural, school children acquire leadership qualities at their young age through Sports and Music.
We have selected four villages in Dharwad taluk which are within 23 kilo meters distance from Dharwad city. Our target group have been children from 4 , 5 and 6 classes from the government schools at Lakamapur, Timmapur, Karadigudda and Pudakalakatti. The programme is being run also with the kind consent of department of education, Govt. of Karnataka. The School Development Management Committee (SDMC), parents, school staff and PRIs are stakeholders of the programme. In each of the village, 16 children are selected for learning life skills through music and 16 are selected to learn life skills through sports. The children were selected following meticulously designed criteria.
The sessions are being engaged after school hours on Saturdays and on Sundays. Trained young musicians and sportsmen engage classes. At the end of the programme, there will be music and sports events organized at the villages and the winners will be rewarded. The programme expects at least a few children excelling in sports and music in their future life and most of them acquiring necessary life skills in their life and become productive assets of society.
